The GDPR not only applies to organisations located within the EU but also applies to organisations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behaviour of, EU data subjects. It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location.

Data protection reform has been in the works for over four years, and GDPR is one of the main components of this new framework.

“Failure to comply with GDPR will result in significant penalties of up to 4% of global turnover or 20 million euro, whichever is higher.”

What is GDPR?

GDPR is an EU regulation on data protection and privacy that was introduced on 25th May 2018. It largely focuses on the process of obtaining and managing user data, giving EU residents more control over their privacy on the internet.

This regulation will certainly bring in major changes to how businesses operate online. But it will also simplify the regulatory environment across all EU member states, making it easier to comply with requirements.

All companies will need to enhance their current privacy policies and how they are displayed on their websites. At Web Design 360 every new site we build have these built into the websites, this ensures that all our customers comply with the GDPR.

Formerly, data collection and processing information was normally just tied into general terms and conditions of a website, which was not often read or even noticed. This caused issues where people would not even know this information was available.

With the new GDPR it will make all this information more transparent so when a customer comes onto a website, they will be promoted to read the GDPR.

Contact Web Design 360 to see how we can help your business comply with the GDPR.
